Walking home after doing some shopping on Saturday, I noticed a new presence in the neighborhood: Hummus Kitchen. Located on 9th avenue near 51st street, it's a tiny, rustically-decorated restaurant that seemed to be about half full early in the evening. I examined the menu, which was short but sweet-- a listing of Mediterranean offerings, including hummus (of course) and various salads and soups and other goodies. Everything was very reasonably priced. As I stood there gaping at the menu, a woman came running out of the restaurant crying, "Can I offer you free hummus?" I was momentarily flustered-- did she mean right now? Was she going to give me a container of hummus? Or did I have to go in and sit and eat?-- but then she thrust a coupon into my hands and explained that it was valid until January. Phew. Apparently Hummus Kitchen opened on Friday night, which made it all the more impressive that there were several people inside at 5PM on day two. Either way, I'll definitely be back to check it out... the menu did look really good, and who can argue with free hummus?

I just visited this restaurant today and the hummus rocked! I love hummus and it didn't disappoint me. The waitress (the one in your photo!) was so sweet and nice.
Gar,
So glad you got over there! I'm STILL dreaming about that fabulous hummus...
Thanks for reading!
Janine
You're welcome! Have you tried other hummus places around the city? Do you know what was the previous store in that space? I can't recall. :P
Gar,
I've had the hummus from Pita Grill (a few shops down from Hummus Kitchen), and it's good but DEFINITELY not the fabulous product that HK unleashes. And come to think of it, I have no idea what was in that space before HK arrived-- I was quite surprised when I passed by and saw it open!
Cheers,
Janine
You should try the Hummus Place then. I'm sure you've heard of it. There are 3 locations and the hummus is almost exactly the same. Funny that this one is called Hummus Kitchen...very similar name. Anyway. Try that out. It's a bit cheaper too and comes with 2 pitas!
Gar,
I definitely will do. Thanks for the tip!
Janine
Yep! No problem. Let me know when you try it! :)
Dear Gar, the menu in those places are different. in the Hummus Kitchen they have rich menu with much more choices. also if you sit in the Hummus place more than 15 minutes you will smell like hummus which at the Hummus kitchen you will never smell like that... one more thing my friend hummus place doesn't take AMX & Hummus kitchen does... now you will decide where you want to go & have a nice meal.
Hi Maor. Wow, do you work for Hummus Kitchen? :) Don't get me wrong. I like this restaurant and I love the fact that I can make substitutions to my meal. Again, the waiteress was very friendly. I wish i could go there more often...
Do you know who opened this restaurant? I saw on the website that there'll a new one in UES. By the way, I think there's an error on the online menu. I wish to email the owner, but there's no email address available...
